HOW I MAKE A CUSTOM FUNKO POP! FIGURE

I start off every custom Funko POP! figure commission with a DIY POP! figure and reference photos provided by my client. This is the time I use to study the photos and really capture what is going to make the POP! figure stand out. Many times there are details that the client would like me to include that have significant meaning to them. Could be a favorite shirt or tattoo.

Once I have a clear understanding of what the client wants in their custom Funko POP! figure I begin to add detail to the figure using Sculpy or Original Sculpy. I typically start with the hair, making sure I match the style and cut of the hair as best I can. I use special tools and techniques that result in the unique look of real hair.

Every custom figure is handled with care and the process takes time as every time something new is added to the figure using Sculpy or Original Sculpy the figure needs to go into the oven and then allowed to cool.

After the piece is cool then I can continue my work on the figure. I use a collection of wet/dry sand paper and sanding tools to smooth out areas and at times correct errors on the Funko DIY POP! figure that come from the factory. Sometimes the head is leaning to one side or drooped down and so at the time it is hot I would correct those issues.

If I am satisfied that the sanding and modeling stage is complete I send a follow up photo(s) to my client and then move on to paint.

I use everything from spray paint to acrylics, and sometimes Micron pens to add whatever detail I need to add. On occasions I have used stencils and rub on decals and vinyl. If there is a logo that needs to be added, then this is the approach I would take to accomplish this task.

No stage of creating a POP! is easier or better than the other. Sculpting, sanding, painting, all require the same level of concentration and attention as the rest. That is why I love creating these piece of art for people, and watching them spend time looking at every inch of the POP!.

A final spray of either Glossy Clear Coat, or Matte Clear Coat and the piece is complete! At this point I inform the client that their very own custom is on it's way.

I package the figure in a BOT10ART bag and bubble wrap it so that it will travel safely to it's new home. If the client asked for a custom Funko POP! box then the figure would be placed in the box and the box carefully wrapped and sent out.

I hope you enjoyed my article, and I would like to say thank you for your time and attention! If you are interested in more then please click on the video above. If you are ready to own your very own Funko DIY POP! figure then click on the link to START YOUR AWESOME COMMISSION!
